Evidence Matters
An estimated 130 years after Isaiah delivered his prophetic message, a rebellious Judah (an offshoot and remainder of Israel) completes the template. Speaking now through His prophet Jeremiah, Yahweh calls from Judah to repent from worshiping foreign gods and sacrificing the blood of innocent children (Jeremiah 19:4-5). As a warning in 605 B.C., Yahweh sends the Babylonians, a foreign-speaking nation, to attack Judah from the north (Jeremiah 1:15; 5:15). Using restrained force, the Babylonians conquer Judah.
After capturing the city, Babylon forces Judah's allegiance. In attempt to ensure Judah remains subjective, Babylon takes select prisoners from Judah's court for assimilation into Babylonian culture.
Meanwhile, back in Judah, the people fail to heed Yahweh's warnings. Rather than repent and turn back to the Lord, they place their faith in themselves, promising to build back stronger, just as Isaiah prophesied.
19 years later, Babylon returns. After an 18-month siege, Babylon destroys the city of Judah.
