Errors of Ancient Israel
Ancient Israel split into two parts, Israel and Judah, around 930 B.C. Over time, Judah begins violating their covenant with the Lord. 300 years after the nation's split, the prophet Jeremiah brings a message from God to the people of Judah.
Two historical charges against Judah:
“For they have (1) forsaken me and made this a place of foreign gods; they have burned incense in it to gods that neither they nor their ancestors nor the kings of Judah ever knew, and they have (2) filled this place with the blood of the innocent. They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.”
Judah’s Consequences:
"And after all that, says the LORD, I will hand over King Zedekiah [of Judah], his staff, and everyone else in the city who survives the disease, war, and famine. I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and to their other enemies. He will slaughter them and show them no mercy, pity, or compassion.”
