Covenant: a Promise between Two or More Parties to Perform Certain Actions
Just as God established and honored covenants throughout history, His covenants remain available for those who sincerely wish to enter today.
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they [inadvertently] drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
Though often abused, these promises relayed in Mark 16:17-18 remain active today when properly applied. It is important to note the Kingdom of Darkness has worked for nearly 2,000 years subverting the proper understanding and application of these promises. In many cases, it has been successful. Additionally, within today's Church some argue these verses in Mark were not part of the original manuscripts, thus do not apply. Whether valid or not, the promises are proven true throughout various other parts of the Bible (see, for example, Paul’s immunity to the venom injected into his hand by a viper - Acts 28:3-6)
Roughly 700 years before His arrival, Isaiah prophesied these words about the coming Messiah:
But he (Jesus) was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
It is by the blood that flowed from the wounds of Christ that we receive healing, be it spiritual and physical.
